I was sorry to hear of Duane's passing. He was the TCS rep on the interview board whwn I joined in 1972 and we served together in Germany later on. I always appreciated his knowledge and expertise.

Duane was first posted to Sydney, Australia when I was on my first posting in Melbourne. Our paths crossed over the years, including when he came to Guatemala for the free-trade negotiations with Central America. Too young to go so suddenly; my sympathy to Dagmar.

Rick Kohler's Comment
ReplyDeleteI first met Duane in Sydney in the mid-sixites -- I was with the Canadian Government Office of Tourism. On his first assignment as a trade commissioner, Duane was an immediate success in all his professional and personal affairs. He was a generous mentor to me, always thoughtful and supportive. I followed his career with great satisfaction and can only express deep sadness at his too-early passing; the department and the country have lost a valued citizen. Edwina joins me in conveying our profound sympathies to Dagmar and family.
Very sad to learn of Duane's death somewhere here in Florida. He was always a trusted and true colleague when our paths crossed on various HQ and abroad assigments.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks John for your fine work in keeping us posted on news of this nature.

Judie and I were very saddened to hear of Duane's passing. We always enjoyed our times together when we first joined the service and we would get together with Dagmar when Duane and we went to Montreal on weekends. Although we lost touch over the years we thought of Duane often, especially as he was a fellow Saskatchewanian.
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts are with Dagmar and the family.

I was saddened to hear of Duane's untimely passing, and am sorry that I was not able to attend the celebration of his life this week.
ReplyDeleteAs is wont to happen in the Foreign Service, our paths crossed only briefly over the years but I'll always remember Duane's pleasant demeanour and professionalism.
Sincere condolences to Dagmar and family.
